It is the middle of winter in Chicago and the temperatures are dropping fast. What better way to stay warm than with a cup of delicious coffee. The windy city has a wide range of great coffee shop choices. We’ve covered a few that you should check out in the past, Sawada Coffee and Hero Coffee. Another coffee shop with great tasting coffee and a notable local following is Dark Matter.
The Art
Dark Matter has 8 locations spread out across the outskirts of Chicago. Each location is fashioned with distinct but cohesive themes. When you walk in you’ll quickly be drawn to the high-contrast, thick-lined, cartoon-like art that binds the shop all the way from its walls to its product designs. In addition to their unique aesthetic, they are known for their experimentation and unique coffee experience.
The Coffee
If you thought you’d seen it all, you have not tried Dark Matter. Their experimentation with coffee blends has brought about some very interesting palettes of flavor. Some notable examples include their Fuego and Machete coffee beans. The Fuego coffee beans are a blend of Guatemalan Catuai beans infused with citrusy Galaxy hops. The end product is a cup of coffee with bright notes of dried fruit. On the other hand, the Machete coffee bean explores barrel-aging techniques through rum barrels and Catui beans. This process delivers a full-bodied coffee experience for the casual drinker. Dark Matter also explores other blends which you can find on their website or at one of their 8 locations.
The Location
As mentioned previously, Dark Matter has various locations scattered across Chicago. For residents of Aqua at Lakeshore East, the Meddle location on 601 W Jackson Blvd is the closest one to home. You’ll be able to find it just a little under 2 miles east across the Chicago River. For those interested in checking out the different locations, here is where you can find them.
Chicago is full of cool and unique places to explore. Let us know what you thought about Dark Matter. Did you love the coffee or was it not your cup of tea? What was your favorite part of the experience? Comment below!
