Local Coffee Shop Spotlight: Hero Coffee Bar

|

The Business

Today we’ll be taking a look at another local Chicago coffee shop for you to check out. With a commitment to giving back to the community, Hero Coffee deserves a closer look.

Hero Coffee is an independent coffee shop that locally sources and roasts their coffee beans. They started out with their first location in the Printers Row neighborhood during 2014. Today they have 2 more locations in the Loop and another near Lincoln Park. Their success can be attributed to their focus on hospitality, quality whole bean coffee, and delicious bagel sandwiches.

Another characteristic that makes Hero Coffee stand out from other roasters in the area is their mission "to positively impact [their] communities one meaningful cup at a time". Hero coffee helps out their community by donating 1 dollar of all merchandise, art, and whole bean coffee sales to local Chicago charities.

The Roots

The first Hero Coffee Bar opened its doors to the public in 2014 at the Printers Row location of 439 S Dearborn St. It was an effort by two friends Brian and Craig who wanted to provide the Chicago area with great coffee and one-of-a-kind bagel sandwiches. Four years later, the business was purchased by two entrepreneurs, Michelle and Trey, who saw potential in growing the business. They maintained the same customer offerings while fine-tuning their customer service.

The Hero Experience

Hero Coffee Bar has recently gotten hold of the old Pickwick Coffee Roasting location on 22 E Jackson Blvd. This location has a very inviting and picturesque store front hidden away in a historic space. Upon visiting for the first time, you’ll be greeted with two large European-styled walls and six marquee light-up letters at the end of the walkway spelling out “Coffee”.

Inside, you’ll find a menu consisting of traditional coffee drinks including lattes, espresso, and cold brews as well as seasonal items such as black forest latte and a matcha latte with a hint of house-made cherry syrup. Additionally, you can accompany your drink with one of their specialty food items including inventive savory bagels. Check out their menu to get a full picture of what they have to offer.
