With this week’s first wave of snow it’s really starting to feel like winter’s rolling in and fall is rolling out. Perfect timing for those who have their winter gear ready. Some things that come to mind when thinking about the winter cold are creamy hot chocolate, holiday movies cuddled while cuddled in at home, snow fights and… ice skating? Yes! There are various skating rinks in Chicago where you can go out and enjoy the winter cold and holiday spirit. Here are some of our favorite places that you can check out with friends, family, or your significant other.
The Peninsula Sky Rink
Located just outside of Streeterville, The Peninsula Chicago nests a rooftop ice skating rink overlooking the iconic Michigan Avenue. Falling in hand with the 30th annual Magnificent Mile Light Festival, the Peninsula hotel will open the skating rink to the public on November 20th. Enjoy soaring through the ice as you get stunning Chicago skyline views. Visit their website for hours and pricing information.
McCormick Tribune Ice Rink
Just like a scene from a movie, At Mccormick Tribune Ice Rink you’ll have the opportunity to skate alongside the scenic Chicago Bean. With the holiday season inching closer, you’ll be happy to find the whole square decorated with Christmas lights! Add a tiny bit of snow into the mix and you’ll have a perfect winter wonderland at Mccormick Tribune Ice Rink. For more information, visit the Millennium Park Foundation website.
Maggie Daley Skating Ribbon
Just less than a mile away from home at Aqua at Lakeshore East, Maggie Daley Skating Ribbon hosts a different kind of ice skating experience. Instead of your traditional rectangle shaped rink, they have a winding skating course reminiscent of a go-kart track. To add to the uniqueness of the experience, this year Maggie Daley Skating Ribbon will be Van Gogh themed! Skate away over still renditions of classic Van Gogh masterpieces like “The Starry Night” and “Sunflowers”. The ribbon opens November 9th but reservations are already taking place!
Light Up the Lake at Navy Pier
For an unforgettable holiday experience, make your way to Navy Pier. This year they will be hosting a brand new event in the Chicago area called Light Up the Lake at Navy Pier. An experience for all ages, here you’ll find a light-filled ice skating rink, a holiday beer garden, a Christmas themed gift market, and a myriad of light sculpture displays. The event will extend from November 26 to January 2nd. You can find tickets and more information by visiting the Navy Pier event’s webpage.
Ice skating can be tons of fun! With so many options each offering a unique experience, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to visit all of them. From rooftop to art-filled skating rinks, let us know which location is your favorite!
