We all have a book we’ve been meaning to read but just haven’t got around to it. Whether it's for lack of time or you just keep on forgetting. This upcoming Monday presents the perfect excuse to finally sit down and flip through those pages. That is because on September 6 we’ll be celebrating National Read a Book Day. So grab your favorite drink and find a comfortable spot to dive into your book. For those of you who have yet to find something to read, you’ll be happy to know that there are multiple local and independent bookstores in Chicago, Illinois that you can help support on this day.
Barbara’s Bookstore
Barbara’s Bookstore has been serving the Chicago area since 1963. They now have 6 stores in the surrounding area including Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and Macy’s State Street being the closest one to Aqua at Lakeshore East. They have a large selection of best-sellers as well as bargain books. So whether you’re looking for nonfiction books or fiction you’ll be sure to find it here. After-words
Located about a mile north over the Chicago Riverwalk in River North you’ll find after-words, one of the only few independent bookstores left in Downtown Chicago. At after-words, you’ll find a collection of carefully curated titles including a vast selection of books from local authors, fiction, poetry, and more. If you’re interested in trading in a book you already finished for a new title, this is the place to go. Sandmeyer’s Bookstore
Sandmeyer’s Bookstore is nestled right in the heart of Printers Row in the South Loop. This independent bookstore has been serving Chicago residents since 1983. Here you’ll be able to find new releases as well as hand-picked staff favorites. In fact, if you’re looking for a recommendation, Sandmeyer team members are more than happy to assist you.
