If you’re tired of spending too much money on eating your favorite meal, ramen, consider trying to make your own delicious meal yourself! This tasty Japanese soup featuring Chinese noodles is an incredibly popular dish in the U.S. 🍜 Some of the key ingredients of ramen include broth, seasoning, noodles, and toppings.
The Basics
Ramen broth is arguably the best part of the entire dish itself. What sets ramen broth apart from regular broth are the kombu and dried shiitake mushrooms. It also contains Tare which is a combination of flavors in a paste that gets added to the broth before serving. You’ll also need a 50/50 ratio of soy sauce and mirin in your broth.
Noodles
“Fresh ramen noodles are nothing more than wheat noodles, made from flour, salt, and water, but treated with an alkaline agent that gives the noodles their yellow hue and springy, chewy texture” (The Kitchn), while instant ramen noodles are made with the same ingredients, but fried and dried before packaged. If you see fresh noodles as an option, we suggest going that route!
The Broth
A simple broth that’s worth giving a shot would feature chicken stock. All you’ll want to do is buy chicken wings and then roast them. Next, simmer the wings to produce a gelatin-rich broth, and add your Dashi (which can be found in “The Basics” paragraph). If you’re wanting even more flavor, feel free to add seaweed, mushrooms, ginger; pork belly, a soft boiled egg, and more!
Once all of your desired toppings are added, feel free to dig in! To take a better understanding of each ingredient to use to conquer this dish, check out The Kitchn, and also feel free to tag us in your dish for a chance to be featured on our socials! 🍜
