Starting out a new hobby or workout routine can be really exciting. However, finding a community that will embrace you at your entry level can be a little more intimidating than exciting. First, there are so many options to choose from and second you don't know where to begin your journey. Fortunately for you, we’ve narrowed it down to a few options. If you’re looking for fun fitness classes in Chicago then look no further.
Indoor Rock Climbing

Although Chicago isn’t especially known for having mountains, you’ll be happy to know that you can still pick up rock climbing as an activity. There are a couple indoor rock climbing gyms in Chicago that you can join with massive walls for beginners, intermediates, and experienced climbers. Just a couple of miles away, you’ll find Brooklyn Boulders in West Loop, Il. For beginners, they host climbing classes to get you familiar with fundamentals. For more experienced individuals, they have fitness classes to help you train for events or in general. Another great place to check out is First Ascent Climbing which is just half a mile down the street. Similarly, they feature climbing classes but also have cardio machines and functional training equipment!
Rowing

Like we said, Chicago isn’t at all known for its mountains. However, it is known for its rivers running through the city and its proximity to Lake Michigan. This is why we believe it's a good idea to drop in on some rowing classes so you can enjoy the summers out and about in the water. Some great places to start include the Chicago Rowing Foundation and the Lincoln Park Boat Club. Both of these organizations offer on-canoe classes for beginners as well as experienced rowers. This is a good way to get your toes wet with the sport. If you’re looking for indoor rowing classes instead to build endurance and proper form, you can check out The Row House and Chicago Indoor Rowing for just that!
Cycling Classes

Explore the city or ride down the lake’s coast on your bike. But first, let’s do some training so as to not tire yourself out too quickly. Warm up on your way to SoulCycle LOOP just a mile west of Aqua at Lakeshore East. Here, you’ll encounter a modern atmosphere and a highly-motivated community. A little bit more north in the River North neighborhood you’ll find another great gym for you to get your stamina up. At CYCLEBAR you’ll find a high-motivation environment where you can train for your ride out in the city. Cycling classes are perfect to improve your health, leg strength, and even mood!
We hope you were able to find a new sport for you to get started on today. Whether you’re interested in riding down the coast, striding through the water, or feeling that adrenaline rush climbing off the ground, Aqua at Lakeshore East is in the heart of it all. Stay active and safe everyone!
