Farmers' market season has begun! There are a ton of awesome farmers markets to check out near Aqua at Lakeshore East in Chicago. Read on for a few of our favorites in Streeterville and the South Loop areas and when they open.
SOAR Farmers Market
The SOAR Farmers Market in Streeterville is about a 6 minute drive from Aqua at Lakeshore East. It’s run by a volunteer organization called the Streeterville Organization of Residents, and has been serving the community since 1975! They won’t open this year until June 6th, but you can keep your eye out on their Facebook and Instagram in case they open earlier.
Federal Plaza Farmers Market
The Federal Plaza Farmers Market is a 5 minute drive away in the South Loop, not too far from Lakeshore East. Chicago City Markets runs this farmers market, as well as the Daley Plaza and Maxwell Markets. You can visit their Instagram to stay updated on their opening dates, hours, and closures. The Federal Plaza market is a great plaza to buy local produce and support Chicago area entrepreneurs!
City Market at Daley Plaza
The City Market at Daley Plaza is only a 4 minute drive away, or a 15 minute walk. This is the longest running farmers market in Chicago! The Daley Plaza Market offers fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods and other items every Thursday from May 21 until October 29.
Maxwell Street Market
The Maxwell Street Market is well known and loved for their awesome international street food, and a unique mix of local goods, handcrafted wares, live music, clothing, produce, and more! This farmers market has been running for over 100 years, and stretches about a mile long. You can learn more about it here. They’re already open and will run through December, every Sunday from 9 am to 3 pm.
