We can always tell when spring has truly arrived when we can spot cherry blossoms around the city! These beautiful flowering trees are strong enough to bloom in the biting cold, yet so delicate we only see them for a few weeks before they fall from their trees. Read on for the best place to find cherry blossoms and flowering trees in Chicago.
Jackson Park
You can find those breathtaking pink and white flowers all over Jackson Park with stunning trees around the Columbia Basin behind the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Garden of the Phoenix. Once the park is in peak bloom, viewers can bask in the soft colors and sweet fragrance. The gorgeous grove on the Columbia Basin is fairly intimate and secluded, giving the feeling that you’re completely surrounded by the trees. They were gifted and planted in 2013 to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the 1893 World’s Fair and the 50th anniversary of Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Chicago. There are also several surrounding the Sky Landing sculpture by Yoko Ono on Wooded Island.
Morton Arboretum
You can also find fantastic cherry blossom viewing at the Morton Arboretum. There’s 20 flowering cherry trees along the main drive, eight more in the Korea Collection, 50 nearby that area, and most of them still closed up because of the cold so you still have time!
If you head out to enjoy a beautiful day of cherry blossom viewing, share your experience with us on social media! We’d love to see your take on the beautiful cherry blossom blooms. Come back next week for more Chicago spring fun in the sun.
