Tackling the Messiest Room: The Kitchen

When was the last time you smelt something good coming from your kitchen sink? Change that immediately by cutting up some lemon rind slivers and throwing them down the garbage disposal. Turn on the cold water, hit the disposal for about 10 seconds, and soon enough you’ll have the kitchen sink, and the whole kitchen, smelling of fresh lemons!

Through all the tomato splatters and soup overflows, your microwave has seen it all. Time to give our most loved kitchen appliance a little extra TLC. Using a large microwave-safe bowl, fill 1 cup of water, a chopped-up lemon, and 1 cup of vinegar. Cook for about 5 minutes or until the mixture starts to boil, then let it sit and cool for another 5 minutes. Carefully remove the bowl and wipe away all the grease and grime with a towel or sponge!

Your plastic cutting boards have probably seen better days at this point, but there is a way to make them look almost new again! Sprinkle salt or baking soda on your dry cutting board. Cut a lemon in half and rub the cut side over the board, covering the entire side. Rinse with cold water and repeat to the other side!

That awesome set of knives a family member gifted you 5 holiday seasons ago, when was the last time you thought of giving that woodblock a deep clean? Here are our best how-to cleaning tips! Fill and plug your sink with lukewarm water and add one tablespoon of household bleach. Soak the wooden block for two minutes, then turn upside down onto a towel or drying rack and let air dry completely.

So whether you wait like 90% of America to get your deep cleaning done until the Springtime, or you like to keep things sparkling clean all year long, refer to our tips and tricks next time a tough spot needs a little elbow grease!
