Oktoberfest With a Twist: Tacos, Beer, and more!

  |     |   Dining, Drinks, Events

The local beer scene in Chicago has been on the rise in the last few years, and boy are we excited about that! Micro-breweries, small batches of craft beers, and even cider houses are popping up all around the city, giving everyone something to cheers about. One local Chicagoan brewery puts a spin on your average beer, creating a craft Mexican Cerveza. Opening in 2006, Cruz Blanca Brewery & Taqueria is all about combining the American’s love for a classic beer, with the delicious spice of a Mexican drink. Need any more reason to celebrate what will surely be your new favorite happy hour spot? Look out for their annual Das Bueno Oktoberfest happening later this month.

Event Details

On Saturday, October 19th bring your drinking arm down to the Fulton Market District and stay awhile at Cruz Blanca. For a $20 advanced ticket, you can walk home with a classic custom made Oktoberfest German beer stein! Your ticket also includes two 17 oz. beer pours in your new beer stein! This annual event will also a have live music lineup courtesy of Mr. Blotto, a beer stein holding contest, and much more to combine your favorite German holiday with the tastes and treats of Mexico!

Drinks to Taste

Beer tastings are available from different breweries around the city including Maplewood, Middle Brow, Penrose, Great Central, and Hopewell breweries. The featured drink on the list of the many craft beers available is, of course, Cruz Blanco’s very own Mexico Calling Lager Especial. This 4.7% ABV Lager has become a favorite of beer snobs in the Chicago area and is described by many as the perfect summer beer. It is a flavorful and refreshing lager with a balance of sweet and bitter.

As far as the other local breweries that will also be providing tasting, we recommend the seasonal Brownie Points Brown Ale with Vanilla from Maplewood Brewing, and the Endgrain Oktoberfest Lager from Hopewell Brewing Co.

Food to Eat

Lucky for all of you planning on attending the event, the entire Taqueria menu will be offered! Not only that, but a few favorites are being created with a German twist in true Oktoberfest style. Authentic German food, or close as we can get to it, such as bratwurst tacos, beer brat torta, and Bavarian beer pretzels will all be served to help you eat your way through this fun-filled Saturday event!

So if Oktoberfest is your favorite made-up holiday, and Mexican food is your favorite thing to snack on, Das Bueno Oktoberfest sounds like the perfect blend of your favorite things. Eat all the good eats, and drink all the good drinks on October 19th at Cruz Blanca Brewery and Taqueria to celebrate Oktoberfest!
