In a city overflowing with quality brunch restaurants, River North stands out as an oasis for breakfast sandwich aficionados. Here are our three absolute favorite local breakfast sandwiches.
Chicago Cut Steakhouse
Don’t let the name (or the four dollar signs on Yelp) fool you—Chicago Cut is River North’s best-kept secret for those who aim to greet the day with gusto. Bright and early every morning, this traditional high-end steakhouse flexes it’s breakfast muscles with a wide variety of options, including the single best breakfast sandwich we’ve ever tasted. Fluffy scrambled eggs, rich smoked applewood bacon, melt-in-your-mouth white cheddar, and vine-ripe tomatoes—all flavored with a light, satisfying arugula pesto. Sides include a crisp hash brown cake and two fluffy beignets served with seasonal fruit jam. And the bill? A surprisingly affordable ten dollars.
Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken
No list of famous Chicagoan breakfast sandwiches could leave out Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken. Whether you’re in a hurry, hunting for a bargain, or just searching for some old-fashioned local flavor, Do-Rite lives up to their namesake with three classic breakfast sandwiches: the Avocado, the Applewood Smoked Bacon, or the spicy Vera Cruz. All come on a perfectly toasted brioche bun, with scrambled eggs and sharp New York cheddar. And no matter your preference, none will set you back more than five dollars—including tip!
If you’re feeling fancy (and maybe a little bit adventurous), Beatrix – Streeterville has the breakfast sandwich you've been dreaming about. The first Beatrix staple—the Pepper & Egg White Sandwich—exemplifies their “healthy meets delicious” philosophy: airy scrambled egg whites and delightfully-flavorful shishito, jalapeño, and pepper jack on layers of organic kale and spinach. Their second offering (if you’re in the mood for something a little heavier) is the Braised Pot Roast & Egg Sandwich, with creamy aged white cheddar and a sweet, biting jalapeño relish. All for under ten bucks!
