We're finally almost to summer, and the event calendar in Chicago is heating up. The Loop is the center of city life in Chicago, and it is the perfect place for all kinds of events to occur. Here are some of the things the Loop has to offer this month.
Summer Film/Music Series
Starting this month, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion will be an almost nightly destination for great entertainment. The Summer Film Series will offer a variety of movies, from thrillers like Mad Max: Fury Road to kids movies like Iron Giant and WALL-E. The movies will play every Tuesday until late August. Also taking place in the Pritzker Pavilion will be the Summer Music Series. This string of concerts will feature samplings of many different genres, from soul jazz to reggae to indie rock. There will be local favorites, emerging artists, and even an Academy Award nominee. Concerts will be mostly on Monday and Thursday nights from June 18th to August 16th.
Chicago Blues Festival
Chicago has long been at the forefront of blues music. And this June, some of that talent will be on display at the Chicago Blues Festival. Blues is considered by many to be America's first original musical art form, and it has grown through Chicago musicians to keep up with changing times and reflect contemporary society. Join your fellow Chicagoans for the world's largest free blues festival, and see what makes our town the "Blues capitol of the World."
Chicago Cares Serve-a-Thon
If you are looking for a way to make a difference in your community, look no further than the annual Chicago Cares Serve-a-Thon. On June 23rd, you will have the opportunity to join with over 5,000 volunteers to serve the Chicago area and help make this great city a little more like home. There will be opportunities in more than 30 locations to serve, from landscaping and construction to cooking and serving food to less privileged folks.
Zombie March 2018
Can't wait for Halloween to get your spookiness on? Join the Chicago Zombie March. It's easy to "live" the zombie life at this event. Just dress in your best ragged clothes, muss up your hair, throw on a little fake blood and join the mob of undead monsters shuffling through a post-apocalyptic Chicago. Don't have your own zombie makeup? Not a problem! Come a bit early and there will be a zombifying station where you can get your ghoul on. The freaky fun starts at 2, with makeup help available starting at 12.
No matter what kind of fun you are into, Chicago has opportunities for you. Jump into summer with one of these June events and start the season right!
